Re: Invitation to participate in a survey on trilingual interpreting Dear Trilingual Interpreting Practitioner, The National Consortium of Interpreter Education Centers (NCIEC) has established a National Trilingual Interpreting Task Force to further the trilingual interpreting profession. The overall goal of the NCIEC Task Force on Trilingual Interpreting is to increase the number of qualified interpreters able to interpret between English, American Sign Language (ASL) and Spanish by enhancing leadership, determining effective practices around trilingual interpreting, and providing educational opportunities and related resources. A critical component to accomplishing these goals is the identification of the competencies and skills needed to successfully interpret in trilingual settings. One method for doing this identification is through conducting surveys. The purpose of the surveys is to gather input from key stakeholders regarding the knowledge, skills and abilities needed for successful trilingual interpreting. We will be conducting surveys with: 1) deaf and hard of hearing consumers of trilingual interpreting services, 2) hearing consumers; 3) companies and/or individuals who hire trilingual interpreters; and 4) working trilingual interpreters. The estimated duration of the survey is 5-7 minutes and will be conducted via Survey Monkey. At this time, the Task Force is seeking individuals who have two or more years of active experience working in trilingual settings.
