A Workshop for Spoken and Sign Language Interpreters
Interpreters of all Levels, Languages, and Ages Welcome!


WHEN:
Friday, March 16th, 2012: 4:00-7:00pm (Registration begins at 3:30pm)
Saturday, March 17th, 2012: 9:00am - 6:00pm
Sunday, March 18th, 2012: 9:00am - 6:00pm
Interpreting for Social Justice is an introduction to interpretation with a foundation in principals of equity and inclusion.
The workshop includes:
Skill Building in Consecutive & Simultaneous Interpretation
Ethical Issues and the Interpreter's Role
Language, Power, and Social Justice
Creating an Inclusive Multilingual Space
Facilitated By:
Roberto Tijerina, nationally recognized trainer in interpretation and language justice - an analysis and practice around language as a tool of power.

This workshop is bilingual in Spanish and English.

CEUs for Sign Language Interpreters: MARIE Center as part of the UNC-DO IT Center is an approved RID CMP Sponsor for continuing education activities. This learning opportunity is offered for 1.9 CEUs in the general studies area at the some knowledge level.
COST:
$50.00 Registration Fee -- Scholarships Available!
Discounted fee made possible by support from the One Nation Foundation.

A limited number of stipends will be available for travel/lodging costs for participants from North Santa Barbara County and Ventura County. Contact us for more info.

Graduates of the Effective Interpretation Skills workshop offered in Spring 2011 are invited to join the workshop on Sunday, March 18th, 2:00-5:00pm, for a special session about creating Multilingual Environments.

Facilitator Training Component:
Learn to facilitate workshops about multilingual space and language justice!
Open to graduates of this workshop and the Effective Interpretation Skills workshop offered in Spring 2011
