Workshop/Course Description: Attendees will review and explore the principles and application of the RID Code of Professional Conduct (CPC). Theoretical and practical applications of the Tenets will be discussed as they relate to resolution of common challenges encountered by working interpreters. This interactive workshop will afford attendees the opportunity to develop and strengthen their ethical decision-making skills, leading to enhanced service delivery to consumers and longevity in the field of interpreting.

Neither CEUs nor a Certificate of Attendance will be given to participants who arrive more than 30 minutes after the start of the workshop.

Presenters Bio's

Mary D'Ettorre has been an interpreter for over 27. She works as a freelance interpreter for several agencies, interprets in a variety of postsecondary settings, and is a Video Relay Services (VRS) interpreter. In addition, Mary was a staff interpreter for Department of Rehabilitation for 13 years, currently is the Communication Coordinator at Cerritos College. She is the direct supervisor to over 40 interpreters and real time captionists combined. Mary has instructed/co-taught a wide variety of workshops and enjoys passing on her knowledge to others in the field.

AA - Human Services Management

Gloria Williams has been an interpreter for over 25 years working throughout the Southern California area in a variety of settings. Her background includes 20 years of university level interpreting in upper division and graduate level courses. She currently serves as the Interpreter Coordinator for Long Beach City College, where she oversees a staff of 40 sign language interpreters. Additionally, she is an instructor/co-presenter for a variety of interpreter training workshops, specializing in such topics as: "ASL 101," "Ethical Interpreting," "Team Interpreting," and "Message Accuracy".
