Trilingual Interpreting: When Knowing Three Languages Isn't Enough 

Friday, April 25, 2014, 9am-5pm and Saturday April 26, 2014 9am-8pm


This workshop is designed for the working trilingual interpreter Intermediate/Advanced Level of ASL and Spanish is required This intensive highly interactive two-day trilingual ASL/Spanish/English is geared toward the experienced trilingual interpreter. Discussion will focus on domains and competencies identified in current research. the demands and controls of working in community and video settings, and the impact of dialectical and cultural differences. Activities will focus on memory building, Spanish language building, interpreting in video settings, and interactive trilingual assignment practice. 


Workshop will be presented in English with Spanish enhancements.


 Registration fee includes lunch both Friday and Saturday and dinner on Saturday.


 Presented by Arlene Narváez, B.S., CI, CT Arlene Narváez works as a trilingual (ASL/Spanish/English) interpreter in community and video settings with experience in both VRS and VRI. She has presented workshops at the regional and national level. In addition to working as an evaluator and interpreter trainer, she has previously served as Co-Chair for the Southern California RID Trilingual Committee and coordinated interpreters for Los Angeles Valley College. Currently she is a member of the NCIEC Trilingual Task Force. 


1.6 CEUs in the category of Professional Studies, offered by the Western Region Interpreter Education Center at Western Oregon University, an approved RID CMP and ACET Sponsor.

 This workshop is funded in part by the Cerritos College Foundation. We are required to provide the Foundation the outcomes of this workshop. We ask that you please take the time to take a short pre and post-test at the beginning and at the end of the workshop. This will help the Foundation decide if they should fund this workshop again. Parking is $2.00 for the day. It may be purchased at the kiosk.
